Orders, the trade blotter and simulated execution

States

Proposed → Pending compliance → (Compliance hold | Pending approval) → Approved → Working → Partially filled → Filled, or Cancelled / Rejected.

  • A hard block rejects the order. A soft warning puts it on Compliance hold until someone writes an override reason; above the firm's override threshold, a Compliance user must also approve the override.
  • An order needs approval when its value is above the firm's threshold or one account's part is above the percent-of-account threshold. The approver needs *approve* on every account and cannot be the person who entered it.

The trade blotter

Orders › Trade blotter (the Trader's landing page) shows every order you may see on one dense, live screen. It opens dark; the theme button switches it.

  • Views: *My orders*, *Desk* (accounts you trade or propose for) and *All* (everything you may view). Rows are filtered on the server, so nothing outside your entitlements is ever sent to the page.
  • Columns: choose, reorder (drag a header), resize (drag its edge) and pin columns on the left with Columns. Your layout is saved for you.
  • Filters: one per column under the header: text contains, numbers like >1000 or <=50, and pick-lists for status, side, algo and compliance. Search (Ctrl+K) looks across the row.
  • Sort: click a header; Shift+click adds a second sort.
  • Group by account, security, trader, status or side, with subtotals of shares, notional and weighted slippage.
  • Saved views: name a set of filters, sorts and grouping; an Admin can share one with the firm.
  • Live: the blotter refreshes every few seconds (paused while the tab is hidden or the pointer rests on a row). Changed rows flash; prices tick green up and red down.
  • Detail: click a row, or press Enter, for slices, fills, allocations, compliance checks and the order's event-log entries. Arrow keys move the selection.
  • Actions: from the row's ⋯ menu, right-click or the drawer: amend quantity or limit (compliance is re-run), cancel, release to the simulator, approve, override a warning, allocate. Tick rows for bulk cancel or release, confirmed on the page first.
  • Export to CSV or Excel, for users with the *export* privilege; every export is logged.
  • On a phone the rows become cards and the detail opens full screen.

AI on the blotter

  • Filter in plain English: "my partially filled tech buys over $1M today" becomes filter chips you can see and remove. It is never a database query, and it can only narrow what you already see.
  • Blotter brief: deterministic checks find stuck orders, slippage outliers, orders near their limit and compliance holds; the AI summarises them with links to the rows.
  • Why? on a flagged row explains the problem and may suggest a fix. Open as a proposal sends the fix to the intent pipeline; nothing changes until you apply it there.

Executing (simulated)

Release an approved order with TWAP or VWAP and a number of slices. Slices come due on a simulated clock and fill against the simulated price of their half-hour, with spread and market impact; each slice is re-checked against the in-trade rules and the order stops if one would be breached.

Execution quality, exceptions and allocation

Orders › Execution quality ranks orders by slippage against the arrival price. Orders › Order health and exceptions lists stuck orders and likely duplicates with a suggested fix, and the executions waiting for Operations to confirm their allocation. Operations (or Compliance) can run the end-of-day compliance batch from there.

Paper trading only: nothing is sent to a broker and no money moves.
